Excavation and dirt work in Lane City, TX is close-in work for us. RLS Land Solutions is a family business out of Needville, about eighteen miles away. We have been doing this work for fifteen years. FM 442 starts at State Highway 60 in town and runs northeast through Boling to Highway 36. Our dump trucks already run that corridor hauling dirt. We handle land clearing, farm ponds and lakes, building pads, ranch roads, grading and dirt hauling. Most of what we do out here is farm and ranch ground. Lane City sits on Highway 60 about ten miles southeast of Wharton, three miles east of the Colorado River. This is working farm country. Wharton County still plants tens of thousands of acres of rice, along with corn, cotton and grain sorghum. Cattle graze the rest. The dirt work that comes with that ground is steady. Low spots hold water after a rain. Field edges and turn rows grow up in brush. Fence lines get too tight for a tractor. Old stock ponds silt in and go shallow. Ranch roads soften every wet spell. Most of our work out here starts with water that will not leave a field. We cut and fill to move dirt from the high side to the low side. We pull out old levees and turn rows that no longer match how the field gets farmed. We open up drains and reset the fall so runoff has a way out. On pasture we fill washed draws and level ground that has gotten rough. Our excavators start in the 50,000 pound class, with dozers and tandem dump trucks behind them. Equipment that size moves acres in a day.
Field edges and fence lines are the other half of it. Brush and young trees creep in from the turn row until you lose farmable ground every year. We dig and push that growth out by the roots with big excavators, then haul it off. Cleared trees and brush go to a green waste dump we own, so the debris leaves the property for good. Stock ponds are steady work out here too. We dig new ponds for cattle and wildlife, and we clean out old ones that filled with silt. The spoil gets used on site to build up a pad or a road.
We own two sand and dirt pits in southeast Fort Bend County. That means select fill, fill dirt and sand come off ground we own. We load and run it down FM 442 with our own tandem dump trucks. A short haul keeps the truck count and the hours down on a job out here. That material builds house pads, barn and shop pads, and equipment sheds that need to sit above the water line. It also builds ranch roads, with base rock over a shaped and compacted subgrade. If a job needs hundreds of loads, we can run around the clock.
The ground around here is worth knowing before you dig. LCRA's Arbuckle Reservoir sits near town, about half a mile off the Colorado River. It covers roughly 1,100 acres and holds 40,000 acre-feet. Most of its clay and sand came out of the site itself, over six million cubic yards. That is the kind of material this stretch of Wharton County sits on. We are built for volume work of our own. We have cleared and prepped thousands of acres for solar farms. We also did the dirt work on a data center project near Blessing. Our minimum project runs about $10,000.
